The unit consists of an orthopedic section with 30 beds and a medical-surgical section with 37 beds. Patient ratios typically average 6:1. The unit employs Patient Care Technicians and has Unit Secretaries available during day shift hours. The documentation system used is Meditech. Schedules are arranged in monthly increments. Full-time staff must work at least four weekend shifts within the month. Staff members may be floated to other inpatient units as needed. The environment encourages teamwork and collaboration among healthcare professionals. Candidates should possess advanced skills as some procedures may be performed at the bedside by physicians. Staff is required to maintain proper dress code, which includes scrub tops and bottoms without holes. Long sleeve shirts can be worn under scrub tops or as scrub jackets. Denim, camo, hoodies, and sweatshirts are not permitted. This unit values patient experience and encourages all team members to contribute to high-quality patient care.
