Job Description Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and
the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI) are seeking a
cardiologist with expertise in critical care cardiology to join the
Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. This opportunity presents the
ability to contribute to one of the top cardiovascular programs in
the world and blend clinical excellence with academic & research
initiatives. Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI) The
Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute is a multidisciplinary
clinical operation that coordinates comprehensive services in
cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular medicine and vascular
surgery. VHVI is a collaborative operation between the Division of
Cardiovascular Medicine, the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery,
and the Department of Vascular Surgery. VHVI is recognized as a
leader in clinical care, research, education, and healthcare
operations. VHVI houses the busiest heart transplantation program
in the world and is an international referral center for cardiac
genetics, electrophysiology/complex VT ablations, connective tissue
disorders, adult congenital heart disease, autonomic dysfunction,
complex percutaneous and open cardiac procedures, and vascular
medicine. The VUMC Department of Medicine has been ranked first in
NIH funding for the last 2 years. The Division of Cardiovascular
Medicine has a robust portfolio of externally funded research, with
annual research awards of approximately $43 million. The Division
of Cardiology includes over 150 faculty, 30 general and
sub-specialty fellows, Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Advanced
Practitioners, and is integral to the education of Vanderbilt
graduate students, medical students, residents, and fellows. The
41-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is an integrated
Surgical and Medical CVICU, offering intensive, multidisciplinary
care. The CVICU treats patients suffering from cardiogenic shock,
acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, valvular heart disease,
cardiac arrest, arrhythmias, complications of pregnancy, aortic
disease, as well as critically ill patients with underlying cardiac
disease. The integrated unit provides the latest in critical care
technology, including the full array of mechanical circulatory
support from percutaneous micro axial flow devices to percutaneous
and centrally cannulated ECMO. In the next 12-18 months, with the
opening of the 180-bed state-of-the-art Jim Ayers Tower, the CVICU
will ultimately expand to an aggregate 70-bed footprint comprised
of medical and surgical cardiovascular intensive care beds managed
by four collaborative teams: Heart Failure/Transplant Surgical
CVICU, Heart Failure/Transplant Medical CVICU, Fast Track Surgical
CVICU, and Comprehensive Medical CVICU to meet the needs of our
patients and referring hospitals. The primary focus of this
position will be leading patient care on the Comprehensive Medical
CVICU team staffed with Cardiology Fellows, Medicine Interns &
Residents, and Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers.
Additional clinical responsibilities will include a cardiology
ambulatory clinic at various VUMC clinic sites, as well as non-ICU
based inpatient Cardiology services. The candidate will support the
academic mission of Vanderbilt University Medical Center by
providing supervision, education, and mentorship to students and
postgraduate trainees. In addition to CCU clinical
responsibilities, the select candidate will have opportunities to
pursue other clinical and research interests if desired.
Qualifications: - Completion of a nationally accredited
Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship - Board certified or eligible in
Cardiovascular Disease - Extensive experience in Cardiovascular
Intensive Care or Fellowship in Critical Care is preferred -
