Job Description:
Description The Shipping Operator plays a pivotal role in
maintaining the efficient flow of materials within the
shipping/receiving department. Responsible for shipping,
inspecting, and staging materials for shipment, the shipping
operator ensures that all materials are handled safely and
efficiently. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Proficiently operate overhead
cranes to efficiently pull and stage materials for processing as
required. Demonstrate capability in unloading coils from trucks and
rail cars with precision and safety. Utilize transfer buggies to
transport materials within the facility, ensuring proper staging
for efficient workflow. Safely operate forklifts to remove scrap
materials and deposit them in designated outside scrap roll-off
boxes. Exhibit adeptness in interpreting and comprehending
processing orders to ensure accurate selection of materials for
processing. Employ RF scanners for location management of materials
within the facility. Promptly report any instances of damaged
materials through reject reports to the Quality department for
resolution and disposition. Conduct repairs on damaged materials,
irrespective of their status, to maintain operational efficiency.
Proficiency in comprehending mill receiving paperwork to facilitate
seamless material processing. Accurately complete Receiving
Inspection Reports for each coil received, adhering to established
standards. Ensure accurate reception of machinery (M/Cs) into
Stelplan for proper inventory management. Effectively interpret and
comprehend both mill and computer-generated tags associated with
received materials. Thoroughly inspect materials for
non-conformities and promptly report any damages or discrepancies
on the shipping report to the supervisor. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
High school education or GED required. Team member must have the
ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production
environment. Must be able to also meet the physical requirements of
the job including the ability to lift 40lbs and work on your feet
on a concrete floor for the entire shift. Team member must also be
able to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team
environment. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Position demands
prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting/bending,
pushing/pulling and sitting. Operators must have precise hand-eye
coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively. Ability
to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.
Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended
periods. Ability to hear warning signals and communicate
effectively in a noisy environment. Problem-solving skills: Ability
to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during
operations. Operators must be capable of making quick decisions to
optimize processes and minimize downtime. Flexibility to adapt to
changing demands and work effectively under pressure. Effective
communication is essential for coordinating with team members.

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS: Proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Computer,
shipping/receiving software, barcode scanners, label printers,
communication devices such as phones, email, etc., Safety
equipment, packaging materials, and tracking tools. WORKING
CONDITIONS: The primary work environment is within a steel
manufacturing facility, which may include: Exposure to moving
machinery, heavy equipment, and sharp objects. Work areas may be
subject to fluctuating temperatures, including hot and cold
conditions, depending on the season. Loud noise from machinery and
equipment operation. The presence of dust, debris, and airborne
particles typical of an industrial setting. Adherence to strict
safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with the
manufacturing process. SUPERVISION AND CO-WORKERS/ATTENDANCE
REQUIREMENTS: Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily
available. Attendance is closely monitored, as unscheduled absences
may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient
