POSITION DESCRIPTION
Maintenance Technical Trainer
Purpose: This position is responsible for research, development,
conducts classroom and hands-on instruction, and evaluates training
programs for the maintenance employees.
Reports to: Director of Training and Development / Training
Coordinator
Essential Functions:
Provides instruction and supervision to apprentices (but not
limited to), on the proper and safe techniques and procedures for
repair and maintenance of all mechanical components and
systems.
Coordinates the selection and evaluation process for on-the job
trainers (mentors). Conducts interviews and recommends employees as
needed. Develops methods to monitor and evaluate the performance of
on-the-job trainers.
Plans, develops, presents, and updates course content for training
programs, including manuals and other materials. This would include
but not limited to course outlines, lessons plan, visual and
mechanical aids. And test of technical skills and knowledge.
Coordinates with technical training staff to develop and integrate
technology-based training methods into technical training. Stays
current and adapts quickly to new technologies.
Completes, submits, and maintains accurate up-to-date training
records, required reports and schedules in a timely manner.
Communicates regularly with maintenance management to access
training needs, determine instructional requirements and to
evaluate effectiveness of programs.
Coordinates and provides schedules for maintenance employees.
Provides technical troubleshooting and assistance to employees.
Assists with the development of standard maintenance procedures as
it relates to training.
Develops and administers written and task performance assessments
to evaluate learner progress. Tracks training and qualification of
maintenance employees.
May need to operate revenue vehicles and support vehicles to
coordinate training efforts, as required.
Safety Initiatives and Security Measures
Take every reasonable precaution given the circumstances to ensure
the protection of employees, patrons, and members of the public.
Identify and inform employees of hazards in the workplace.
Determines safe work methods and ensures that employees are
notified of new and modified methods. Ensures that employees are
trained on safety policies and procedures. Ensures that employees
follow procedures. Responds to health and safety concerns of
employees in a timely manner.
Enforces security measures, controls, and procedures. Reports any
security related issues in a timely fashion to the appropriate
Manager. Engages the workforce to recognize the report security
matters promptly.
Maintains, recertifies and audits maintenance training equipment or
coordinates with third party/building maintenance.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to all testing
provisions under the Drug and Alcohol Policy, including random drug
and alcohol testing. The person selected for this position may be
required to be tested prior to being awarded the job.
Education, Requirements, and/or Experience
Minimum of:
High School Diploma or GED.
Three (3) years' experience with hands on vehicle maintenance or
body shop repair.
Effective communicator skills; ability to present information
effectively in a multi-environmental setting.
Knowledge of training materials for all maintenance related
courses, personal computers and commonly used software programs for
word processing, spreadsheets, and databases at the level of
proficiency; currently used inventory management systems and
software; and standard industry computer software used diagnose and
troubleshoot bus electrical systems and electronically controlled
engines and transmissions.
Self-motivator and continual learner
Preferred:
Two (2) years' experience as a facilitator/trainer
Previous supervisory experience
ASE Certification
Education instruction experience or related field.
CDL A with P endorsement
Able to meets standard of third-party testing and conduct CDL
training as required for maintenance staff.

High level of knowledge on all bus components and software used to
diagnose all vehicles.
Competent in job skills and knowledge; exhibits the ability to

developments; requires minimal supervision.
Collects and researches data, ability to read and interrupt
mathematical problems; can read and create graphs; ability to
compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Stays current and adapts quickly to new technologies; troubleshoots
technology problems; uses technology to increase productivity.

opportunities, strives to continuously build knowledge and skills,
shares expertise with others.
Problem solver: identify and resolves problems in a timely manner,

Effectively communicate change and progress; completes projects on
time.
Ability to effectively operate all Microsoft applications, Ron
Turley, TrainCaster, Track It Software systems, etc. Must be able
to operate phones, computer, tablets, laptops, printer/fax/copy,
adding machines, projector, smart board, camera, and can set up
training equipment off site.

Writing style is clear and understandable. Ideas are presented in a
coherent and logical sequence. Able to edit work for spelling and
grammar errors.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Works additional hours as needed for training exercises / special
projects/events/conferences (such as TPTA, APTA, Rodeo, and
etc.)
